Rustic Decorating

If your idea of relaxing is to spend time in a mountain cabin, you may want to think about using a rustic decorating theme in your home. After all, why not bring that peaceful feeling into your life year round instead of only enjoying it on holidays. You can have that same peaceful relaxed feeling in your own home rather than have to travel hundreds or perhaps even thousands of miles to experience it.

When using a rustic theme at home, you will want to use natural paint colors, such as gold, red, blue, and green to add "life" to the room. Browns are a bit too dark for most rooms (they tend to make the room feel quite small), but paler tan colors can also work very well as part of this theme.

Although pine flooring is the traditional choice for rustic themes, warm slate tiles also are attractive. Colorful braid rugs or Southwestern woven throw rugs are the most common choices for rustic floor coverings, although some people prefer faux fur rugs instead. Some of these choices will be based purely on personal preference but that's what's most important here - making the room unique to you.

Furnishings And Accessories

Furnishings in a rustic room are chosen for comfort and charm. One of a kind twig furniture pieces make wonderful accents. However, distressed pine pieces and furniture with whitewashed finishes are also common. Overstuffed love seats and chairs are ideal seating choices. However mission style seating with loose cushions is also an excellent choice for rustic themes. Wrought iron pieces also blend in really well with this style.

There are many accessories to choose from when you are decorating in the rustic style. North woods accessories include plaques, candle holders, and even napkin rings with wild animal designs. More sophisticated accessories include woven baskets and twig picture frames.

When your rustic retreat is complete, you will be able to enjoy that peaceful log cabin feeling when you arrive home from a hectic work day every evening. What better way to unwind?
